GILMAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

Description:

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for US undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, this congressionally funded program is administered by the Institute of International Education through its Southern Regional Center in Houston, TX.

Scholarship Amount:

Up to $5,000 depending on the length of the program.

Students should revise and review their essays and/or proposals, take to Writing Center in Maag Library for feedback, then to one of their professors for comments and suggestions. NATIONAL SECURITY EDUCATION PROGRAM

The applications for the 2014-2015 David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships are now available at www.borenawards.org. Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, where they can add important international and language components to their educations.

Boren Scholars and Fellows represent a variety of academic backgrounds, but all are interested in studying less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. As part of the African Languages Initiative, Boren Award applicants have the opportunity to further their study of Akan/Twi, Hausa, Portuguese, Swahili, Wolof, Yoruba, or Zulu. Undergraduate students can receive up to $20,000 for an academic year’s study abroad and graduate students up to $30,000 for language study and international research. In exchange for funding, recipients commit to working in the federal government for a minimum of one year.

Description:

The U.S. Student Program is designed to give recent B.S./B.A. graduates, master’s and doctoral candidates, and young professionals and artists opportunities for personal development and international experience. Most grantees plan their own programs. Projects may include university coursework, independent library or field research, classes in a music conservatory or art school, special projects in the social or life sciences, or a combination. Recent projects have involved cancer research in the UK, free market development in Mauritius, women's rights in Chile and contemporary artistic expression in India.

OXFORD AND RHODES SCHOLARSHIP TRUST

Description:

A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable at the University of Oxford. It may be held for a minimum of two years, which is the duration of certain courses, or for a maximum of three years. The Rhodes Trustees will grant a third year when it can be shown that it is clearly in the interests of a Scholar’s immediate studies and future career, and that the work, conduct, and general record have been satisfactory. After a third year of the Scholarship, some additional funding may be sought from the Trustees for the completion of doctoral studies. Rhodes Scholars may pursue a one-year degree, diploma, or certificate in the first instance, as long as it is part of a plan for two or three years of Oxford study involving a subsequent degree course.

GLOBALINKS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Description:

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad strives to offer the most reasonable study abroad fees. To further enhance the affordability of the programs, GlobaLinks encourages students to apply for scholarships through all available scholarship sources. GlobaLinks Learning Abroad provides more than $600,000 in scholarships every year. To be eligible for consideration for a GlobaLinks Learning Abroad scholarship, you will be required to fill out a full scholarship application (only available upon acceptance to a program) by the required deadline. Scholarship decisions are made by a committee, and not all students receive an award.

MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIPS

Description:

Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. At least forty Scholars are selected each year to study either at graduate or occasionally undergraduate level at an UK institution in any field of study. Each scholarship is held for two years. As future leaders, with a lasting understanding of British society, Marshall Scholars strengthen the enduring relationship between the British and American peoples, their governments and their institutions. Marshall Scholars are talented, independent and wide-ranging, and their time as Scholars enhances their intellectual and personal growth. Their direct engagement with Britain through its best academic programmers contributes to their ultimate personal success.

THE HONOR SOCIETY OF PHI KAPPA PHI

There are today chapters of Phi Kappa Phi on the campuses of nearly 300 colleges and universities in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. Phi Kappa Phi has been and remains a unifying force for academic excellence on these campuses, inducting high-ranking undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, professional staff, and alumni. From the original thirteen members in 1897, the Society now annually confers membership on more than 30,000 persons. Today's initiates, like those who preceded them, are the "best and brightest" and will greatly influence economic, political, social, and educational life in the coming decades.
